uMhlanga Ratepayers’ Association welcomes new municipal app

The app allows residents to report faults and view and pay their bills, as well as upload their meter readings.

THE eThekwini Municipality has launched a brand-new mobile app they say ‘will make life much easier for residents’.

The app, which was launched last week, has a number of key features where residents can report faults, view and pay their bills, upload their meter readings and find details of their councillors.

Besides reporting faults or viewing bills, the app also has other functionalities such as news, traffic reports, places of interest and more.

The app has been welcomed by various stakeholders, including the uMhlanga Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association.

Chairperson of the association Terri MacLarty said the app is easily accessible and user-friendly.

“From what I’ve experienced so far, the app is user-friendly and easy to use. It gives us residents another way to connect with the municipality. Our ward councillor, Nicole Bollman, has also created a few slides on her page on how to use the app, which is also very helpful. Quite often, the phone lines to the call centre are so busy that you cannot get through and the WhatsApp line often doesn’t work properly. I feel this will go a long way in making it easier to report or log a fault,” she said.

City manager Musa Mbhele said residents can register for an e-services account and use the login details for e-services to log into their bills on the app.

“This is to keep customer accounts secure. The app was introduced as a preferred first point of contact for customers to enquire about any services rendered by eThekwini. The City is committed to improving customer service and service delivery. This app will make it that much easier to interact with the City. The app also proves that the City is embracing the digital age and moves us a step closer to achieving our ambition of being a smart city. I urge everyone to download and use the app.”

The app (eThekwini Municipality) is available from Play Store for all Android versions and on Apple iStore for IOS.
