GALLERY: Doing one good deed at a time this Mandela Day

Good deeds are being done all across the country this month to commemorate Mandela Day. Students volunteered to paint five classrooms at a Greenwood Park school last week.

MANDELA Day at Columbia Primary School in Greenwood Park was well supported with the community and learners coming together to paint five classrooms which were in need of some sprucing up.

The Wellness Centre Trust was the organisation responsible for organising the initiative, which saw a number of volunteers come together over three days to get their hands dirty.

Among the volunteers was a group of learners from Reddam House Umhlanga where each one has to complete 15 hours of community service a year.

Eloise Briggerman, founder of the trust, said this was just the beginning.

“There’s still a lot to be done. We’re hoping to give the school a complete revamp over time. A number of sponsors were involved in this project, which we are so grateful for, as well as to everyone who gave their time,” she said.

She said the bathroom and sports field are next on the list.

“We’re just happy that learners can come back to refurbished classrooms which will make for a better learning environment,” she added.
