Greenwood Park CPF Youth Desk reaches out to help women

The items will be distributed to the underprivileged girls in the Greenwood Park community through an empowerment programme.

THE Greenwood Park Community Policing Forum Youth Desk have embarked on a sanitary and toiletry drive to assist the youth in the area who experience period poverty.

Aptly named the Women Outreach Initiative, Sapna Kissoon, Youth Desk vice-chairperson and project coordinator, said the body is collecting sanitary pads, toothbrushes, face towels, toothpaste, face cream, deodorant, bath sponges and the like.

Speaking to Northglen News, Kissoon said the youth desk noticed that many of the youth are faced with period poverty and inadequate access to sanitary pads and basic toiletries.

“The drive for this initiative came after realisation that the main reason for absenteeism amongst female learners is the lack of basic toiletries. We aim to improve the livelihoods of the community and improve the lives of the people in the community,” said Kissoon.

Kissoon added that sanitary pads and basic toiletries are necessities in a female’s life.

“One step of kindness makes a big difference in an individual’s life. One of the objectives of the CPF is to improve the livelihoods in our community. This initiative is one step closer to our objective,” she added.

The items may be dropped off at Liberty Hall, Rega Temple and Greenwood Park Shree Ranganathar Temple.
