Comrades Marathon Association to address runners’ concerns
The CMA said it will look at various aspects of this year’s Down Run, from the start to the finish.
THE Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) said it will address concerns raised by runners at this year’s 96th Comrades Marathon at an upcoming organising committee debrief.
This year, several runners raised their grievances on social media over cut-off times and the fact the organisers had allegedly run out of medals.
In a statement, CMA chairperson Mqondisi Ngcobo said the board noted runners’ concerns.

“We will be conducting Race Organising Committee portfolio debriefs in the coming weeks. We will look at all aspects of the race, from the start and route to the finish.”
“Our race has always been about putting runners first, and once we have finalised our debriefs, taking into account some of the concerns that our runners have raised, we will implement those recommendations that are aimed at improving our race offerings in 2024 and beyond.”
The 96th Comrades Marathon was lauded as having the seventh-highest finisher rate in the history of the 102-year-old ultra-marathon.
