Paint and polish needed at Columbia Primary School

All the prep work is being done by a professional. Volunteers are needed to complete the painting of the clasrooms.

PLANS for a great Mandela Day initiative are underway with The Wellness Centre Trust and Columbia Primary School in Greenwood Park.

The project entails the painting of 13 classrooms which are in need of some tender, loving care.

Founder of the trust Eloise Briggerman said she saw the need at the school when the organisation assisted with installing industrial fans in the classrooms.

“I came to know about the school through the trust as we have assisted learners from here before, and through another source. There are 13 classroom walls and ceilings that need painting, and we are appealing to the business and private sector for sponsorship of paint or their time,” she said.

“Schools, organisations and businesses who want to volunteer hours will get letters confirming the number of hours they have sponsored. We are also able to give businesses letters for BEE points and tax deductions,” she said.

She said all the prep work will be done by a professional however, if anyone else is skilled in this field, they are welcome to join in.

Brian Mudaly, acting principal of the school, said volunteers were also welcome to adopt a classroom and complete the handy work.

“We are so grateful to The Wellness Centre Trust for organising this initiative. A fresh coat of paint will make for a much better learning environment for the learners,” he said.

He said copper theft is rife at the school, and the challenge was that the school had limited funds to keep paying for plumbing services.

“We need a plumber and electrician to sponsor their services pro bono to the school. We have to dig into our very limited reserves, which is not ideal as the school is very challenged in receiving school fees,” he added.

To book a slot for the project on July 12, 13 and 14, email admin@twct.co.za or call Sue on 071 377 4212.
