Suspect flees with airtime machine from North Coast Road shop

One of the suspects was armed with a handgun.

GREENWOOD Park police are investigating a case of robbery after an armed suspect stole an airtime machine from a service station on Wednesday this week.

The incident unfolded on Chris Hani Road (North Coast Road) at about 14:00.

According to Sanveer Sooklall, spokesperson for Swift Private Security, the suspects fled the scene of the robbery in a vehicle without number plates.

Swift Private Security responded to an armed robbery at a Service Station on North Coast Road, Redhill, at around 14:00 this afternoon.

“According to an employee at the scene, four suspects arrived in a Silver Toyota Avanza to purchase airtime from the shop. One of the suspects jumped out of the vehicle while the three remaining suspects sat in the vehicle. The suspect then approached the till and pretended to be interested in purchasing airtime.

“While standing at the till, he produced a firearm and forcibly took the airtime machine and fled. The suspects were last seen driving towards Chris Hani Road in the vehicle. The vehicle has no number plates at the front or back. Greenwood Park SAPS was also on scene following the robbery,” he said.
