Durban North actress lands new role

After sending in a video enacting the audition script, she was called to the Imbewu studio in Durban a few days later to start filming.

IT was lights, camera, action for Geaneviv Aleece Pillay, who just landed a role in the final season of Imbewu: The Seed.

The Durban North actress said she could hardly believe her ears when she received a call informing her that she had got the part.

“I auditioned for the part of a 30-year-old Indian woman and didn’t think I would fit the part because I’m much younger but, with wardrobe and make-up, it all came together,” she said.

“I didn’t think that I did that great in the audition. I’m a perfectionist, and I felt I wasn’t what they were looking for,” she added.

Her character, Pillay said, is the total opposite of her.

“She is wild and has some deep-seated psychological issues. She’s an insecure little girl who puts on a show and pretends everything is okay,” she said.

“She is crazy, but I had so much fun playing her,” she added.

Pillay, who has been an extra on Imbewu before, said having lines was such an amazing experience.

“This is the first time I was cast in a TV series. I learnt so much on set and got to see teamwork at its absolute best,” she said.

Now Pillay is waiting to land her next role on television, but in the meantime, she is enjoying life to the fullest.

“I manage a newly opened restaurant in uMhlanga. I also promote small businesses on social media, and I was recently called by my former high school (Northlands Girls’ High) to judge a talent show,” she said.

Finally, the cherry on top is her graduation ceremony in May, and it’s no surprise that she chose a career in the arts.

“I completed my Bachelor of Arts at UKZN, Howard Campus. I have had to work hard to achieve this, and I’m so proud that I finally did,” said Pillay.

“My dad plays the guitar, and my mom was made for the stage. My brother is a chef so you could say that we all have a creative flair,” she added.
