Police arrest man linked to shooting in Greenwood Park

The suspect faces charges of attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

THE man who was allegedly involved in yesterday’s shooting, where a woman was shot in the leg, has been arrested.

The incident occurred at the corner of Effingham and North Coast roads at about 17:30.

Marshall Security spokesman Tyron Powell said Greenwood Park SAPS arrested the suspect within 18 hours.

“Circumstances around the shooting were established, and the Greenwood Park SAPS were investigating a case of attempted murder. Working on information received and intelligence gathered, the Greenwood Park SAPS Trio Crimes Unit managed to apprehend the suspect and recover a homemade unlicensed firearm in the late hours of this morning in the Greenwood Park area,” he said.

He commended Greenwood Park SAPS for the admirable work and swift arrest.

“When the incident occurred, a member of the public flagged down one of our armed response officers who notified Greenwood Park SAPS and Netcare 911,” said Powell.

He said members of the special operations team administered first aid and intermediate life support before paramedics arrived.

“The victim sustained a single gunshot wound to her upper right leg,” he added.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said the woman was shot in her upper leg and was in critical condition.

“When medics arrived on scene, they found the lady unresponsive on the floor, noting a large open wound as well as extensive blood loss,” he said.
