Footage leads to arrest in Sunningdale

Community members are encouraged to remain vigilant at all times as this could lead to successful arrests.

CCTV camera footage from a vigilant CPF member saved the day over the weekend when two wanted suspects were spotted and arrested in Figtree Rise, Sunningdale.

“The CPF member was on high alert after hearing about a theft case that had occurred earlier in April, where two steel drain covers were stolen from a client’s driveway on Sugarfarm Trail,” said Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell.

Officers responded and apprehended the suspects, a male and female, and held them until Durban North SAPS arrived where a case was registered.

When the suspects stole the covers, they tried to sell it to a local scrap metal dealer who refused to purchase it from them. The suspects then discarded the covers in a nearby bush but when Marshall Security went to recover the items, they were not there.

“This incident highlights the importance of community involvement and CCTV cameras in combating crime. The alert CPF member played a crucial role in spotting the suspects, while the CCTV footage provided valuable evidence for their apprehension,” he added.

Powell said community members must remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement agencies as it can make a significant impact in keeping communities safe.
