Florida Road eatery closes its doors following AKA shooting

Despite accolades like the Emerging Tourism Entrepreneur Award, the eatery, Wish on Florida, will shut its doors after the shooting that tarnished its brand.

AFTER a fatal shooting involving South African rapper, Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes, local eatery, Wish on Florida, will permanently shut its doors on April 10.

Wish on Florida director Philani Kweyama made the announcement in a statement shared on social media today, April 4.

In the statement, Kweyama said their brand equity had been ‘deeply hindered’ by the fatal shooting incident.

“In light of the recent tragic event on our doorstep, we have experienced a severe downturn in business which leaves the directors with no other choice but to close the business permanently,” said Kweyama.

“We would like to thank the city of Durban for the tremendous support,” said Kweyama in the statement.

He added that Wish on Florida will host several events before closing its doors.

“We invite the public to join us on our last trading week as we have an exciting line-up of activations, from April 7, leading up to ‘The Last Supper’ on April 10. Follow our social media accounts for more information,” read the statement.
