Maris Stella presents Matilda the Musical
Don’t miss out on Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical Jr coming to Durban this week only! Maris Stella’s production of this cheeky girl-power romp will have kids and grown-ups alike cheering for the ‘revolting children’ of Crunchem Hall as they try to avoid the Chokey and stand up against the tyrannous Miss Trunchbull.
Tickets: R70 – R100
Dates: Wednesday, March 22 to Friday, March 24 at 18:30.
Doors open at 17:45, and there will be food will be on sale at the event.
Saturday, March 25
Celebrate Enviro Week
The City has invited everyone to care for the environment during the eThekwini Enviro Week. Hosted by the eThekwini Municipality, with partners Green Corridors and the City of Bremen (Germany), Enviro Week offers a packed programme of fun and insightful activities.
During this week, there is also National Water Week, National Library Week, and Earth Hour, which will be celebrated on Saturday, March 25.
The week closes off on Saturday, March 25, with a celebration at Green Hub at Blue Lagoon, where a range of environmental education and public awareness (EE and PA) organisations have been planning ways to collaborate, and they will share updates on the plans to establish a formalised EE and PA Action Network.

East Coast Chilli Festival
The first-ever chilli festival for Durban takes place in Durban North this weekend.
Aptly named the Great East Coast Chilli Fest, the event promises to deliver a heat sensation like no other in the form of products, food, competitions and more. The event will take place on March 25 at Northwood Crusaders Club.
There will be a chilli-eating competition, food – mild and spicy – and lots more for individuals and families to enjoy.
There is also an artisanal chilli-sauce-making competition. If you make chilli sauces, especially with a twist, you can enter.

Sunday, March 26
Open Streets Florida Road
The eThekwini Municipality announced on March 15 that they will be launching a one-day Open Streets Florida Road pilot on March 26 to increase foot traffic to businesses on Florida Road in Morningside.
The municipality said in a statement that a portion of the road will be closed to traffic on the day to promote active mobility.
The City said that the Open Streets concept is about pedestrianising some of the busy areas on occasion for Durbanites and visitors as well as creating spaces that are accessible and safe for a day-long outdoor pop-up event.
“The pilot will be used as an experiment where an assessment will be conducted on what works and how to improve the project for rollout in other areas around the City. From 09:00 to 17:00 on March 26, no vehicles will be permitted from Florida Fields through to the top of 8th Avenue. Motorists can make use of guarded street parking in the vicinity of Florida Road – on the side roads and dedicated parking area nearby – to park their vehicles,” said the municipality.

Friday, March 31
Dance is the heartbeat of love
Flatfoot Dance Company is partnering with the KZNSA Art Gallery, based in Glenwood, to present their first performance of 2023, entitled Love Song. The show will offer two performances only, taking place on Friday, March 31, and Saturday, April 1, at 18:30.
Love Song, collaboratively created by the full company (Sifiso Khumalo, Jabu Siphika, Zinhle Nzama, Sbonga Ndlovu, Siseko Duba and Ndumiso Dube), under the choreographic direction of Lliane Loots, is a mesmerising journey into the heartland of the workings of the heart and how we love.
The KZNSA Gallery (Glenwood) will be open from 17:30 on both March 31 and April 1, with a special dinner menu for those who want to eat, and the bar/coffee bar will be open both before and after the show. The running time of the show is 55 minutes.
Tickets are priced at R100 for adults and R80 for children 12 and under. Booking is essential due to limited seating capacity. Contact flafootdancecompany@gmail.com.
