Copper thief stopped in his tracks at Park Hill property

Officers caught the man after receiving an alert through a WhatsApp group.

A MAN was caught in the act of stealing copper pipes from a business premises on North Coast Road in the Park Hill area on Sunday.

Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell said the dispatch centre was alerted through a local WhatsApp Crime Alert group that a suspect was spotted trespassing at the premises.

“Armed response officers arrived at the property and conducted a search when they spotted a suspect attempting to strip the copper pipes from an aircon unit. The suspect was immediately apprehended by our team members,” said Powell.|

The owner of the property and Greenwood SAPS were notified, and the suspect was taken to the police station for further investigation and processing.
