Durban’s Super Giants score emphatic win over MI Cape Town

It was the first win for the Durban franchise in the Betway SA20 tournament.

DURBAN’S Super Giants grabbed their first victory of the Betway SA20 after securing a 5-wicket victory over MI Cape Town at Newlands on Friday.

The visitors chased down a target of 153 with cameo knocks from Kyle Mayers (34), Wiaan Mulder (30) and Heinrich Klaasen (36).

The MI Cape Town side batted first after the Super Giants skipper, Quinton de Kock, won the toss and elected to bowl.

It seemed to be the correct call as the home side were reduced to 45 for 4 after seven overs. However, some lusty blows in a 60-run fifth-wicket partnership between Grant Roelofsen (52) and George Linde (33) and a further 47 runs off the final 29 deliveries saw MI Cape Town reach 152/8 at the innings change.

Despite a fantastic bowling display from Olly Stone who took four wickets (making him the leading wicket taker in the tournament), the Super Giants claimed an emphatic win with three overs to spare.

It’s a quick turnaround for MI Cape Town as they face Joburg Super Kings at Newlands on Saturday. Durban Super Giants head back home to welcome Paarl Royals to Kingsmead on Sunday.

Final Scores:

MI Cape Town: 152/8 (20)
Durban’s Super Giants: 154/5 (16.3)
