Durban North couple toast to diamond jubilee

The loving couple celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary today, December 29.

FULL Gospel Church in Durban is where the love story of Elizabeth and Leslie Moollen began 62 years ago.

The North Durban couple celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary today, December 29.

The duo said the best part of their marriage has been raising their children together.

“Having our three children has been the greatest blessing. We had our hands full because we had to work and raise them at the same time, but it was the greatest blessing.

“Faith in God is what has kept us together. You can take anything to God – he is always there for us, and he answers – maybe not when we want him to, but it does come,” said Elizabeth.

Asked what advice they would give to young couples who are still hoping to tie the knot, Elizabeth said communication is important in marriage.

“A wedding is a happy occasion, but it is just the start. Life together is practical, so it’s important to talk and know how each other feels about handling finances, raising children, etc, and putting God at the centre of decision-making.”

It wasn’t long after they started dating that Leslie asked for Elizabeth’s hand in marriage in 1961, and they later got married in 1962.

Two years after tying the knot, the couple welcomed their first son, Andre, in 1964. Their daughter, Avril, followed in 1968, while their last-born son, Deon, was born in 1973.

The couple plan on celebrating their wedding anniversary on New Year’s Eve with their family.
