uMdloti beaches get the all-clear for swimming
Water quality tests have confirmed the beaches in uMdloti are now safe for swimming.
THE eThekwini Municipality has re-opened uMdloti Main and uMdloti Tidal beaches on Saturday (December 10) as the water quality at these beaches has improved.
According to the City, E. coli (sewage bacteria) levels have consistently dropped at the beaches.
The green light came from the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs in KwaZulu-Natal (KZNDTEA) after numerous water quality tests confirmed that the listed beaches are now safe for swimming.

eThekwini mayor Mxolisi Kaunda welcomed the good news.
“We are happy that more beaches are re-opening. We will continue working together with all stakeholders and experts to ensure that we comply with safety standards.”
Kaunda said the municipality received an authorisation letter to open these beaches and and Casuarina Beach on the KZN North Coast from the KZNDTEA on Friday, December 9.
“The City will continue to monitor all beaches to comply to national water quality standards and guidelines. Appropriate steps will be taken should the need arise. Our aim is to always prioritise the safety of residents and visitors.”
