Copper thief arrested in Avoca

The suspect was found in possession of copper pipes, brass taps and electrical cables on Old North Coast Road in Avoca.

A KNOWN convicted thief was arrested by Marshall Security after being found in possession of suspected stolen goods.

Marshall Security Spokesperson Tyron Powell said the suspect was spotted by members of the Special Ops Team acting suspiciously on Old North Coast Road in Avoca during their routine patrol.

“Our team members immediately conducted a stop and search. Upon searching the suspect, copper pipes, brass taps and electrical cables were found in his possession. The suspect could not give a reasonable explanation as to how he had acquired these items and was immediately apprehended. Housebreaking implements were also found in his possession.

“The suspect had previously been arrested earlier this year by members of our Special Ops Team, where he had pleaded guilty in court and paid a fine. The suspect was handed over to the Greenwood Park SAPS where he will be facing charges of being in possession of suspected stolen items, damage to state infrastructure and being in possession of house-breaking implements,” said Powell.

Marshall Security have attended to over 27 incidents of copper theft in the Greenwood Park and Durban North area this month so far. The public is urged to report these thefts to their nearest police station.
