Three-year-old falls 30m down cliff face on Umgeni Road

The child was allegedly walking along the cliff’s edge when she lost her footing.

A THREE-YEAR-OLD girl was lucky to escape serious injury after falling down the cliff face on Umgeni Road.

It is understood the youngster was walking near the cliff’s edge close to the informal settlement when she lost her footing.

Paul Herbst of Medi Response said paramedics, as well as the search-and-rescue teams, responded to the incident on Monday afternoon.

“On arrival of crews, it was established that the little girl had fallen approximately 30m down a cliff. Together with Metro Police Search and Rescue, crews broke a hole through a wall at a municipal substation to access a pathway to the child,” he explained.

Herbst said the child sustained moderate injuries.

“She was carried out of the area to an awaiting Medi Response ambulance. The child is stable and was transported through to hospital for further care,” he said.
