One dead in accident on N2

A light delivery vehicle had broken down in the emergency lane, and while mechanics were working on it, a heavy, articulated vehicle ploughed into the scene.

A MAN in his forties has been killed in a collision involving a heavy-duty vehicle on the N2 northbound just after the KwaMashu Highway.

Emer-G-Med Spokesperson Kyle van Reenen says the accident happened just after 08:30 this morning.

“Emer-G-Med paramedics, together with Netcare 911 and IPSS medical, responded to the scene of a horrific accident. On arrival at the scene, it was established that a light delivery vehicle had broken down in the emergency lane and while mechanics were working on it, a heavy, articulated vehicle ploughed into the scene.

“A male of approximately forty years of age was found to have sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead on arrival of paramedics, while at least four other men were treated for injuries ranging from minor to moderate and taken to nearby hospitals for further medical care,” said Van Reenen.

Van Reenen said the South African Police Services were on scene and will be conducting the necessary investigation accordingly.
