WATCH: Disgruntled former King Shaka employee hits back

The former employee's actions may be attributed to a disciplinary hearing they underwent.

A DISGRUNTLED former employee of King Shaka International Airport took matters into their own hands in an unusual way after facing disciplinary action by the company.

In a video that was widely circulated on social media, a fire truck can be seen splashing water at one of the buildings in the airport premises.

Media Specialist for Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) Gopolang Peme says, the former employee’s actions may be attributed to a disciplinary hearing they underwent.

“The employee underwent a disciplinary process due to a serious transgression and the process is still underway. We believe that his actions were motivated by the disciplinary process. I am, however, unable to disclose the nature of his transgression as this is an HR related issue, and such matters are treated with the sensitivity they rightfully deserve,” said Peme.

Peme said following the incident, all necessary safety measures and protocols were activated in order to contain the situation.

“There were no injuries to customers and our passengers. The safety of our passengers remains the cornerstone of our business, and will never be compromised. King Shaka International Airport continues to operate without any disruptions from the incident,” he said.
