GALLERY: Boxing event at Crusaders packs a punch

Trevor Wolmarans, owners of Knuckle Game Boxing Academy in Durban North and the hosts of the event, said the vibe was electric.

A SOLD-OUT event, knock-out action and an animated crowd were the order of the day at the Hurt Game Kings fight night at Crusaders Sports Club.

Trevor Wolmarans, owners of Knuckle Game Boxing Academy in Durban North and the hosts of the event, said the vibe was electric.

“We had 11 bouts on the evening, and overall it was such a great experience. The support from the Durban community was fantastic, and we had loads of responses for people calling for more events like this. The suggestion was we host a fight night every three months. It would be something we are open to, and it certainly raises the profile of the sport of boxing.

“What was most pleasing is that we sold out on the evening with 700 tickets sold. Three fighters from our gym won, and one drew in their bout so it was a resounding success. Promoting boxing and trying to spread the message of community involvement is what we are all about,” he said.

Wolmarans added, the hope was to host another event next year.
