WATCH: Effingham robbers arrested after high-speed chase

Upon their arrest, it was established that the vehicle was used for other crimes in the area.

TWO suspects linked to multiple home invasions were arrested by members of Armed Response Officers after an attempted burglary at a residence in the Avoca area.

Marshall Security Spokesperson Tyron Powell says that the suspects were spotted by alert community members who saw them jumping over a wall into a property on Tasneem Crescent.

“The suspects were disturbed and then jumped back out of the property and into a getaway vehicle, which was a blue Kia Soul. The suspects then fled in an unknown direction.”

Powell says that details of the suspects’ vehicle were circulated to all their Armed Response Officers and Special Operation Team members to be on the lookout.

“At approximately 12h30, the same vehicle was spotted on Tasneem Crescent by community members who informed our Emergency Dispatch Centre. Multiple Armed Response Officers were immediately dispatched, and the vehicle was spotted travelling on Effingham Road in the Effingham area,” said Powell.

He says that as Armed Response Officers pursued the vehicle, a high-speed chase ensued when the suspects’ vehicle joined the N2 south freeway from North Coast Road.

“After a high-speed chase, the vehicle was eventually stopped on the N2 south freeway just before the Spaghetti Junction. Two suspects were immediately arrested while a third suspect, unfortunately, managed to evade arrest after fleeing into a nearby dense bush.

“Upon searching the suspects’ vehicle, various housebreaking implements were found together with overalls which could possibly be used by the suspects to change their clothing description after committing a crime,” he said.

He says that upon the suspects’ arrest, it was established that the same vehicle was wanted for a house burglary that had occurred in Desai Crescent in the Effingham area.

“It was also later established that the same two suspects had been arrested earlier this year in April for being involved in an attempted housebreaking incident in Bailey Road in Avoca,” he said.

The suspects, together with the vehicle used in the commission of crimes, were handed over to the SAPS for further investigation and processing.
