Gate-motor thief arrested in Effingham

The suspect was seen pushing a blue bin in Avoca when he was arrested.

A SUSPECT alleged to have stolen a gate motor from an Effingham Road property was arrested on Friday by members of Swift Private Security.

Company spokesperson Sanveer Sooklall said they were alerted to the theft incident at about 15:50.

“The suspect was seen leaving the property, pushing a blue bin and heading towards Avoca Road. His description was circulated to our response officers.”

“He was spotted in the Avoca area, and he was stopped and searched. He was found in possession of the gate motor that was stolen. The homeowner attended the scene and confirmed that the gate motor did belong to their house,” he said.

Greenwood Park SAPS were also in attendance.

Effingham and Avoca have seen a spike in petty thefts, armed robberies and attempted robberies in recent weeks with the most serious case leading to the assault of a homeowner on Avoca Road.
