Durban North blood donor makes milestone donation

Along his blood donor journey, Muller has also convinced others to join him.

DURBAN North’s Gregory Muller recently made his 100th blood donation at SANBS at Kensington Square.

His blood group is O-negative, which means his blood can be given to anyone needing blood.

O-negative blood is therefore in the highest demand, however, SANBS always encourages anyone to donate as one donation can save three lives.

“I started donating blood in 1995 when I lived in the United Kingdom for a few years. After moving back to South Africa, I continued,” said Muller.

“I’ve always donated timeously. I still remember donating when SANBS was in Umhlanga Rocks Drive until it moved to Broadway opposite the library,” he added.

Muller said he started donating as it was his way of helping others.

“This is a great milestone for me, having reached my 100th donation,” he said.

Along his blood donor journey, Muller has also convinced others to join him.

“Many have continued to donate. There are so many people who are still afraid to donate blood, but there’s nothing to be afraid of. As time has gone by, it has gotten to the point where the equipment that pricks your finger to test your iron levels is hardly felt. As far as the main needle is concerned, the staff have really mastered it, and one hardly feels it, too,” he said.

“As soon as I receive the SMS to say I’m due to donate again, I make a plan to donate.”
