Suspects linked to armed robbery arrested on M4 near Broadway off-ramp

The suspects were spotted driving in uMdloti when a private security company intercepted.

FOUR suspects were arrested on the M4 near the Swapo (Broadway) off-ramp on Sunday (November 24) evening for their alleged involvement in a spate of pedestrian robberies in Umbilo.

Law enforcement also found a replica firearm and two cellphones believed to have been stolen after the suspects were spotted in uMdloti.

According to Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell, the suspects’ vehicle was spotted on South Beach Road around 17:45.

“The suspects were reportedly travelling in a black Kia Sportage, and their modus operandi is to target pedestrians walking alone and rob them of their belongings. One of our officers spotted the vehicle on South Beach Road, [which the suspects] attempted to drive off onto the M4.

“The vehicle was later intercepted just past Broadway. All four occupants were immediately apprehended. A thorough search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of two cellphones that the suspects could not account for, along with a replica firearm which is suspected to have been used by the suspects to commit robberies,” Powell said.

The suspects were handed over to the Durban North Police Station.
