NSC 2023 matric results: Excellent results for Northlands, Northwood and Danville

Member of the Executive Council Mbali Frazer said the province has done exceptionally well in their NSC examinations.

THE KZN Class of 2023 obtained a pass rate of 86% in their National Senior Certificate (NSC) results. This has put them in second place in all nine provinces. MEC Mbali Frazer said, “This is a reflection of the efforts of the department, especially educators.”

“In the face of financial constraints and devastating storms that plagued the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education in 2023, the commitment and dedication of everyone – from the Head of Department and all the officials to the educators and learners in the classroom – never wavered for even a second,” she stated.

“Our Bachelor’s passes have increased from 61 856 in 2021 to 69 849 in 2022 and further to 72 099 in 2023. The Class of 2023 also recorded 43 769 diploma passes while the number of higher certificates decreased from 22 560 in 2022 to 20 435,” announced Frazer.

Frazer further commended the improved performances throughout the province, stating that all 12 districts achieved an 80% average pass rate.

Danville Park Girls’ High School

“I am filled with immense pride and gratitude that our Class of 2023 has once again achieved a 100% pass rate, marking the 30th consecutive year of outstanding success,” says Danville Park Girls’ High School principal LA Scholtz.

Danville Park Girls’ High School achieved a 100% pass rate and a 92.4% Bachelor’s pass rate.  Twenty-seven students (20.6%) achieved a Level 7 (A) aggregate, 44 students (33.6%) achieved a Level 6 (B) aggregate and 38 students (29%) achieved a Level 5 (C) and above aggregate.

Two-hundred and sixty-three (two per learner) students achieved subject As. Two students achieved 8 As: Tarika Harilal and Rebecca Henderson. Seven students achieved 7 As: Fathima Alli, Jenna dos Santos, Tyeisha George, Giselle Govender, Jeeya Prithipal, Jiya Ramdas and Ekta Singh. Eight students achieved 6 As: Chen Manli, Vedna Dayaram, Simran Maharaj, Siana Nathoo, Eden Stevens, Julia Sutton, Keya Moodley and Cheyénne Pinn. Three students achieved 5 As and five students achieved 4 As.

“This incredible milestone is a testament to the unwavering dedication, hard work and collaboration of our entire school community and is thus a shared and collaborative achievement. Our exceptional educators’ dedication to excellence has set a high standard for academic achievement, our parents and guardians have been steadfast partners in the educational journey of our girls and our feeder primary schools have played a crucial role in laying the foundation for their academic success,” Scholtz states.

Scholtz, while beaming with pride, says, “Our Danville Diamonds shine brightly and make us immensely proud. They have worked hard and shown resilience and determination. Well done!”

Northwood School

Northwood management and staff congratulated their Class of 2023 on their fantastic results which they said, “Is a testament to the hard work from our learners, guidance and support from parents and unending commitment from our teaching staff. The Matric Class of 2023 has made us incredibly proud achieving a 98% pass rate! Placing us as the Top Performing Public Boys School in eThekwini.”

Eighteen Northwood School boys achieved A aggregates, with the following five boys achieving a full house of 7 distinctions: Yakecen Govender, Lesharn Govender, Leal Jensen, Liam Kumar and Pavan Naidoo. Six As were obtained by Thivaar Juggernath and Tyler Swanepoel. Five As were obtained by Reece Van der Linde and Tahir Anandavasagar. Four As were obtained by Kavish Singh, Nirav Maharaj, Kyle Price, Ethan Govender, Nishay Singh, Kian Naidoo, Ndumiso Phungula, Siyabonga Mnyandu and Jaden Pillay.

“Special mention goes to our top three achievers: Yakecen Govender and Lasharn Govender tied first with an aggregate of 92.8%, and Leal Jensen placed third with a 91.3% aggregate. Yakecen Govender also achieved an outstanding 97% for Further Studies Mathematics (AP Maths) written through the IEB Programme.”

“Overall, the Class of 2023 achieved 197 subject distinctions, with 96.5% of students qualifying for tertiary study, of which 78.6% qualified with a Bachelor’s Pass. The grade obtained an overall average of 61.4%.”

Northlands Girls’ High School

“Congratulations to the Class of 2023!” said Principal TS Reddy.

The Matric Class of 2023 achieved a 98.3% pass rate and attained several distinctions. One student achieved 7 As, four students achieved 6 As, four students achieved 5 As and three students achieved 4 As.

“Your graduation from NGHS is a significant achievement, and we are all proud of your dedication and commitment that has brought you to this milestone. As you enter the next phase of your life, remember to always embrace new opportunities and continue to pursue your passions. Wishing our NGHS class of 2023 the very best in your future endeavours!” he commended.
