Friday, June 30 – The Natal Sporting Hound Association will be hosting their annual Championship Dog Show from Friday, June 30 to Sunday, July 2 at the Shongweni Club, Kassier Road, Assagay. The show, which will start at midday, will consist of an array of hounds from the Hound Group. Some of the dogs on show will include Afghans, beagles, dachshunds (of all shapes, sizes and fur types), Irish wolfhounds, Ibizian hounds, Rhodesian ridgebacks, salukis and whippets.
Friday, June 30 – Glenwood Presbyterian Church will host their Night Fair from 17:00 until 20:00. Visitors to the fair can expect to find a range of items on sale, including hamburgers, wors rolls, biryani, cakes and coffee, as well as sweets, crafts and clothes. Local DJ Castle will add to the atmosphere. The church is located at 339 Esther Roberts Road. For more information, call the church on 031 205 3717.
Saturday, July 1 – The Hollywoodbets Durban July (HDJ) at Greyville Racecourse is on this Saturday. With all Covid-19 restrictions finally out of the way, a full house of approximately 50 000 fans is expected. The weather is expected to be ‘brilliant sunshine and a pleasant 22 degrees with very little wind’. The theme for this year is ‘Out of This World’. The event will be a blast for racing fans, partygoers, fashion aficionados and celebrity guests alike, many of whom will be travelling from far and wide to be in Durban on the day.
From Saturday, July 1 to Sunday, July 9 – The East Coast Radio House + Garden Show is set to take place at the Durban Exhibition Centre. As KZN’s biggest home, garden and lifestyle expo, the show has created a local marketplace of inspiration, creativity, innovation, collaboration, demonstrations, entertainment and craftsmanship at its best. Bringing over 350 exhibitors together, it’s a one-of-a-kind home and garden experience for shoppers and idea hunters!
This year’s theme, ‘My Home, My Way’, will come alive in a symphony of colour, sound and taste.
Sunday, July 2 – Join Hillcrest siblings Ronald and Shayna Smith under the banner of Running Kin for a fun morning run. The 5km race will start at Forest View Primary School on Sunday, July 2 at 07:00. A portion of the money will be donated to The Association for the Aged (TAFTA). Tickets cost R80 for adults and R50 for children. Email info@runningkin.com
Thursday, July 6 – The public is invited to join the Pinelands/Pinetown Women’s Institute at 09:30, in the Presbyterian Church Hall on Maurice Nichols Road, Pinetown. People can listen to an interesting speaker and enjoy refreshments.
Wednesday, July 12 – The Hillcrest Floral Art Club invite you to spend a ‘Morning of Flowers’ at the Anglican Trinity Church, Inkutu Road, Hillcrest, at 09:30. Visitors are welcome, and entrance is R50 per person, which includes tea and refreshments. Contact Gill Collinge on 083 540 2212.
Until Sunday, July 16 – Kickstart’s Winnie the Pooh kicked off last Thursday, June 22 at the Sneddon Theatre, and if you’re looking for something fun to do during the July school holidays, there’s still time to catch the live-action show! The colourful and faithful adaptation of AA Milne’s classic children’s story will be showcased at the Sneddon Theatre until July 16.
