Warning: Heavy rain and possible flooding predicted for Durban

The City issued a flood alert after a weather warning update from the South African Weather Services.

MOTORISTS are urged to drive safely on the roads following the heavy rain around Durban.

It has been reported that a lot of cars have stopped along the N3 by Pavilion as visibility is very bad.

eThekwini Municipality issued a statement that people should take note of a weather warning issued by the South African Weather Services (SAWS) whose forecast model shows moderate-intensity, scattered rainfall over the eThekwini region.

“Higher intensities are predicted over the central and northern coastal area and western interior from 10:00 today, Tuesday, June 27 until 02:00 on Wednesday, June 28.

“The potential impact is localised flooding in both formal and informal settlements and low-lying bridges. Another impact is difficult driving conditions,” said the City.

The municipality is urging people to be cautious as the inclement weather may result in fast-flowing streams and deep water.

“The public is also advised to avoid crossing rivers and swollen streams and to be careful when travelling. The municipality will update the public should there be any changes in the weather prediction.”
