WIN: Take a festive train ride with Umgeni Steam Railway

At the peak of the festive period, from December 15–17, Father Christmas will be on board all daytime trains.

CAXTON Local Media and Umgeni Steam Railway (USR) are giving away nine family ticket sets this festive season – and what could be better than a ride on a vintage steam train through the Valley of 1000 Hills? The family set includes four tickets – ideal for a family or group of friends. Winners will be treated to a train ride on December 15 at 15:00. All aboard!

Umgeni Steam Railway (USR) is planning for a busy holiday season with festive-themed trains prior to Christmas, a Boxing Day special post-Christmas train, and an early morning train ride in January to begin the first week of the year ‘on-track’.

Throughout the holiday, the Inchanga Craft Market will be in full swing with dozens of stalls offering family-friendly locally sourced festive fare. There is also a food garden offering a range of light meals and snacks, a play area and a picnic site.

At the peak of the festive period, From December 15–17, Father Christmas will be on board all daytime trains, and the 17:00 train will culminate in a participative candlelit carols concert in a marquee at the Inchanga Market.

The Inchanga Railway Museum will be open for tours, and the model railway, Thomas and Friends, will be operational in the Modeller’s hut. Tours will be offered through the shed to see the 110-year-old steam locomotive, Maureen, under repairs, as well as the vintage coaches.

There are no ATMs or card facilities on site. Cash or Zapper is accepted. There may be some open days over the festive season. Follow USR’s social media platforms and website (www.umgenisteamrailway.com) for more information. Inchanga Station is situated at 1 Station Road, and there is safe, guarded parking on site. Umgeni Steam Railway is a non-profit volunteer-run organisation which aims to preserve South African steam heritage for future generations.
