Human remains found in bushes near Rinaldo Road

The remains were found by a man looking for scrap in the area.

HUMAN remains were found in a makeshift tent – in the bushes near Rinaldo Road and Harrison Drive, in the Glenhills area on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Ward 110 councillor, Aamir Abdul, a human skeleton, assumed to be that of a homeless person, was discovered by a man looking for scrap in the area.

“Police were called to the scene. At this stage, they don’t suspect any foul play, but an investigation is ongoing. The Greenwood Park CPF were also on scene, and there is a call to clear the bushes around this area as there could be more informal dwellings in the area.

“They suspect the person was homeless as the skeleton was found in a makeshift tarp dwelling. The remains were beyond recognition,” Abdul said.

This is the second time human remains were discovered in the area – in 2019, workers at a construction site on Spathodia Place made a grisly discovery after uncovering human remains.

Members from the SAPS Search and Rescue K9 Unit, SAPS Search and Rescue and Metro Police Search and Rescue were on scene to uncover the human remains which included two femur bones and a few smaller bones.
