WATCH: Greenwood Park residents angered over ongoing sewage leak in gardens
Residents say they’ve seen an increase in flies, rats and cockroaches as a result of the leak.
RESIDENTS of Dawn Lane in Greenwood Park say they are at their collective wits’ end over a sewage leak that has been flowing through the gardens of several homes.
According to resident Megan Kast, the leak, which flows through her property, has made life hell for residents in the area who have had to put up with the smell. It also poses a health hazard to residents on the road.
Kast said the issue has been ongoing for the past three years, but it has worsened since February of this year.
“There are young children getting sick because of this horrible situation. Every day and every night, we smell this putrid odour. When we sleep, when we cook – my children can’t even play in the yard, and we can’t host any family events because of this,” she explained.
“We’ve reported the matter to the eThekwini Municipality, and they have come out to inspect the problem, but they told us they don’t have the right equipment to fix it. They up and leave, and the problem is left unresolved. We cannot go on living like this, and plus, this situation is also unhealthy for the environment,” Kast said.
