A section of the M4 had to be closed to allow emergency personnel to treat those injured in the collision.

“A taxi and a light motor vehicle collided which led to both vehicles leaving the freeway and careening into the bushes alongside the M4. The driver and only occupant of the vehicle was entrapped and had to be freed from the wreckage. She was transported to hospital in a serious condition.

“At least 12 people in the taxi sustained various injuries and were also treated on scene before being transported to various hospitals. Traffic has been severely affected by the accident scene, and the M4 had to be closed in order to allow for emergency personnel to work at the scene,” he said.

Jamieson added that the events leading up to the accident are unknown, and law enforcement were on scene.
