North Durban community asked to assist Puppy SOS after fire

The organisations are in desperate need of dog food and supplies.

A FIRE, which broke out at Puppy SOS in Hazelmere, in the early hours of Monday morning, has left 120 dogs and 30 puppies without a food supply.
The Phoenix Animal Care and Treatment (PACT) organisation shares the premises with the Puppy SOS and is calling on the north Durban and greater Durban communities to help build up their supplies.

PACT founder, Neeri Naidoo, told Northglen News that the animals were unharmed. However, the storage room containing all their dog supplies and a vehicle was ravaged by the flames.
“When we heard about the fire, we were so worried that the animals and staff had been hurt, but they escaped, which we are so grateful for. Our hearts still sank, though, as all our supplies and our vehicle, which we use for rescues, were lost in the fire,” said Naidoo.
The organisation was still slowly rebuilding kennels after the April floods, but those building materials also burned in the flames.
“Basically, we now have to start from scratch and are appealing to locals and businesses to assist,” she said.
She thanked Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) for being the first responders to the fire. The cause of it is still unknown at this stage.
