Cat lives matter for Durban North animal welfare organisation

At any given time, there are about 10 cats and kittens in Gascoigne’s care, all getting prepped for their forever homes.

DURBAN North animal lover, Caroline Gascoigne, has been rescuing kittens and finding them forever homes since 2019.

She is the one-man band who runs Little Beans Kitten Rescue, a non-profit organisation that rescues, vaccinates, sterilises and treats sick kittens and cats before they are adopted.

“I’ve been an animal lover all my life, and I have fostered animals for seven years. I’ve worked with several animal welfare organisations and branched off to start my own, specifically for cats, as there’s a strong need to get cats sterilised in Durban,” she said.

Gascoigne said it was not only kittens that were sterilised but the mothers too.

“It’s no use only getting the litter sterilised and leaving the mom out because she will produce more litters, and we won’t be solving anything,” said the animal lover.

To date, Little Beans Kitten Rescue has encountered 350 successful adoptions, and with the help of the community and business sector, Gascoigne hopes there will be more.

“I get sponsorship through word of mouth, networking and social media. Animal lovers often contribute, and I also dig into my own pocket to make sure these fur babies get the care they need,” she said.

Little Beans Kitten Rescue is currently raising funds through a raffle. Tickets cost R50, and a family holiday for four to six people is the prize.
