CCTV FOOTAGE has emerged of a brazen break-in of a store at Gateway Theatre of Shopping in the early hours of Sunday morning.
At least six suspects are seen smashing the front window of a gaming store, and they ransack the shop, stealing a number of gaming consoles.
One of the suspects is seen using a long stick to reach items on the highest shelves.
Gateway Theatre of Shopping’s marketing manager Michelle Shelley confirmed the incident took place at about 05:00 on Sunday.
“At approximately 05:23 on Sunday, June 12, armed suspects broke into Gateway Mall and robbed a store within. The centre’s tactical armed response team immediately responded to the scene. No injuries were sustained. The incident is currently under investigation by SAPS,” she said.
Provincial SAPS spokesperson, Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo confirmed a case of robbery had been opened at the Durban North SAPS station.
“It is alleged that at 05:20 in the morning, six unknown armed men entered a business premises in uMhlanga. They broke into one of the shops and took PlayStations and video games and fled the scene. A case of robbery is being investigated,” she said.
