THE weekend is around the corner, and Durban has a few fun events lined up. From classical music to movies, here are a few ways to unwind. With events on Thursday and Friday to check out – why not get into the weekend spirit early?

Thursday, June 9

The KZN Philharmonic Orchestra completes its winter season with concerts on Thursdays at The Playhouse, at 19:00, on June 9 and June 16.  This week’s performance features Leo Gevisser who will be performing Saint-Saëns’s exotic Piano Concerto No 5. Friday, June 10 – Sunday, June 12

The LGBTQI Film Festival takes place this weekend at the Rhumbelow Theatre to coincide with Pride Month. The line-up includes Brokeback Mountain, to be screened on Saturday at 11:00, The Birdcage on Saturday at 19:00, Rocketman on Sunday at 14:00 and Love, Simon on Sunday at 18:00. Saturday, June 11

A classical concert, featuring piano, cello and violin, will take place at Port Natal Citadel, on Saturday at 18:30. The venue is located at 455 Esther Roberts Road. To book a ticket, contact Karen Brokensha on 083 777 5633.

Sunday, June 12

Durban City Orchestra presents a Classical and Romantic concert with conductor Charles Van De Merwe and soloist Tony Hind (flute). The concert takes place at St Thomas’ Anglican Church, 190 St Thomas Road, Musgrave. Tickets are available at the door at R150, with a special student price of R120.
