Business-minded boys from Sunningdale to feature at market

The name of the sauce-making business is The Scocerer, which the family brainstormed over. Thereafter, Mark designed the logo.

TWO brothers from Sunningdale are on the rise to become successful entrepreneurs.

Using their dad’s knowledge on how to grow cycads and make delicious chilli sauce, Mark (12) and Matthew (10) Quinton have already started a small business.

The boys sell their fare at the Sunningdale Entrepreneur’s Market, which will take place on Sunday, June 5 at 38-42 Village Way.

“My dad, Chris, has taught me and my brother a lot about cycads,” said Mark.

The boys are also learning about the protected species of cycad and how to preserve them for future generations. Their interest doesn’t stop there.

They also grow habaneros, a few jalapeño peppers and African bird’s eye chillies at their home. From this, they create four types of delicious chilli sauce, another skill they learnt from their dad.

“It’s our family secret recipe. We sell mild, medium and hot sauces, each with its own unique flavour. We’ve experimented with different variations where we’ve added pepper and pineapple,” said Mark.

A 15-litre batch of sauce is made and bottled into 250ml bottles of goodness.

The name of the sauce-making business is The Scocerer, which the family brainstormed over. Thereafter, Mark designed the logo.

“The sauces each contain jalapeño, bell pepper and green bird’s eye chilli. The extra-hot version has African bird’s eye chilli. My dad comes from the pharmaceutical and food-making industry, so he teaches us about the science that goes into making the sauces, such as how to preserve them,” said Matthew.

If you’d like to purchase products from the Quinton brothers, you can find them at the Sunningdale Entrepreneur’s Market or contact their mom Genevieve on 083 782 7075.
