Help uMhlanga non-profit keep a young woman in school while she menstruates

Pledging a menstrual cup means that one young girl will get to continue with her education while she menstruates.

WHETHER you’re a woman or man, we can all do something to create awareness around menstrual cycles.

A husband and wife duo, Joseph and Lesego Mpyana, who are the founders of Move Africa, encourage all to get involved in the Red Movement, a programme which encourages each person to start by donating a menstrual cup to a young woman that will enable her to still attend school while she is on her period.

“Statistics show that three in 10 girls miss school every month due to not having access to sanitary wear. By pledging a menstrual cup, you could change the life of a young woman,” said Lesogo, founder of the Red Movement.

“We invite people from all walks of life to pledge menstrual cups for girls experiencing period poverty. Every month, 3.7 million girls miss a week of school because they can’t afford menstrual products,” she said.

Not only does the Red Movement aim to provide sanitary wear to schoolgirls, the programme is also designed to educate them about the menstrual cycle, and break the stigmas associated with periods.
