WATCH: uMdloti suffers more damage as heavy rains batter KZN

The level 10 warning issued by the weather service is its highest possible warning level.

THE eThekwini Municipality has mobilized various emergency personnel as heavy rains continue to wreak havoc across Durban.

This comes after the South African Weather Service increased its warning level to 10 which is the highest due to the intensity of the rain.

According to municipal spokesperson, Msawakhe Mayisela, the rain is only expected to subside tomorrow, Sunday, 22 May 2022.

In uMdloti, North Beach Road has again been covered in sand, and the main entrance road into the village has been affected.

Mayisela said water levels on the roads and rivers are expected to increase as the heavy downpours continue.

“Residents are urged to obey the instructions of emergency teams who act for the safety of the public. Please report all emergencies to 031 361 0000,” he said.

During last month’s KZN floods, the seaside town was one of the hardest hit as several apartment blocks had to be evacuated due to several mudslides which caused utter devastation to the area.

He urged residents to exercise caution and to avoid crossing low-lying bridges, stream and rivers.
