“Our dispatch centre received information from WhatsApp community crime group of a housebreaking on Bailey Road,” said Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell.

By the time officers responded the suspects had already fled.

“They were disturbed by the homeowners after forcing the front door of the home open,” he said.

A detailed description of the suspects and their vehicle was circulated and the team was asked to be on the lookout.

“The vehicle was spotted on North Coast Road four minutes later and more officers were called for back up. When they noticed our officers, they began driving recklessly and throwing housebreaking implements at them to deter them,” said Powell.

The chase finally came to an end on the N3 before the Jan Smuts Highway where the men were arrested.

It was a joint effort between Marshall Security officers, Marshall special operations team and the Greenwood Park SAPS.

“Multiple housebreaking implements and pepper spray were found in the vehicle. The suspects were charged by Greenwood Park SAPS for attempted housebreaking and for being in possession of housebreaking implements,” said Powell.

The men were all foreigners and were unable to provide SAPS with their required documentation. Further investigations are underway.
