“Last Thursday, Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received a report on a WhatsApp crime group that a suspect was busy stealing light fittings from a premises on Herrwood Drive in Umhlanga,” said Marshall Security spokesperson, Tyron Powell.

Armed response officers were then dispatched and within a few minutes, saw the suspect walking on Umhlanga Rocks Drive. The stolen light fittings were found in his possession resulting in his arrest.

On Friday afternoon, an armed response officer noticed a suspect pushing a green wheelie bin on Ranleigh Crescent in the Durban North area.

“When the officer questioned the suspect, he could not give a reasonable explanation as to how he had the wheelie bin in his possession. The suspect was immediately detained and upon further investigation it was established that the wheelie bin had been stolen from a well known sports club on Ranleigh Crescent,” said Powell.

The bin has special markings on it that indicated it belonged to the sports club.

“We recommend residents mark their wheelie bins with a physical address, to make it easier for us to trace owners and to possibly prevent suspects from stealing them in the first place as they know there is a chance of them getting caught,” added Powell.
