Donate and network over ‘mahala’ tea

Tables of 10 can be pre-booked for R1000 with donation bags.

EARMARK April 20 in your calendars for the Robin Hood Foundation’s first Mahala Tea for 2022.

The tea takes place at The Station Venue from 08:30 to 10:30 and promises to be a morning filled with fun, fundraising and networking.

Jackie Psannis, KZN coordinator for The Robinhood Foundation said the purpose of the Mahala Tea is to raise funds and collect donations for the foundation’s Mahala Markets, which afford members of the community the chance to ‘shop’ for free.

“It’s really such an amazing feeling to watch the women shop for their families and themselves. You can help us give them this opportunity by sponsoring your unwanted goods which are still in great condition,” said Psannis.

Tilanie Grote, volunteer for The Robin Hood Foundation, and one of the organisers of the event, said they were hoping to get 220 to attend the tea. “We encourage people to share their unwanted treasures for someone in need,” said Grote.

She said shoes are the most popular item needed as well as children and ladies clothing.

“If you have jewelry, hats scarves and any other accessories, these are all welcome,” she said.

Grote added that the women also shopped for fabric and pieces of material to create their own items from.

Cindy Norcott of Pro Talent (who founded Robin Hood Foundation) and Marietjie Brown of CHEP will be speaking at the event.

There will also be live music by Rene Tshiakanyi as well as prizes to be won and exhibitions to browse.

The entrance fee is either R150 or a black bag (or more) filled with pre-loved items in good condition.

Tables of 10 can be pre-booked for R1000 with donation bags.

Limited exhibition tables are available at R250 per table.
