UKZN in-person graduation ceremonies make a comeback

In total, there are approximately 21 345 graduates who graduated in 2020 and 2021 and will be a part of a special celebration.

KNOWN for their glamour mixed with memorable celebrations, the iconic University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) has announced that they will return to hosting in-person graduation ceremonies.

This will be the first time since the outbreak of Covid-19 that UKZN hosts in-person graduation ceremonies as these were replaced with virtual ceremonies in 2020 and 2021 due to restrictions at the time.

The relaxation of the Covid-19 restrictions has allowed the University to return to in-person graduation ceremonies with the Autumn graduation ceremony scheduled to be held from Wednesday, May 4, until Saturday, May 21. It must be stressed that this is subject to the regulations remaining unchanged.

The 2020 and 2021 graduates, whom Covid-19 denied the opportunity to have in-person graduation ceremonies, will also have something to look forward to as they will be included in a special celebration in the latter half of the year.

Normah Zondo, the executive director for corporate relations at UKZN said, “We are excited that we are going back to in-person graduation ceremonies. A graduation ceremony is a crowning moment in any student’s academic life, so we understand the importance that the ceremonies have to our graduates and their families. The University is hard at work planning for these events, and we remain mindful that the Covid-19 pandemic is still with us. We want to ensure that these ceremonies are memorable to each and every graduate. We thank everyone for their understanding during these challenging times universities worldwide are facing.”
