Foster Kid shares his story and his love for his grandma in Greenwood Park

Although he does get hate comments, he responds to it with two words: 'you jealous' , which has his followers in stitches.

KNOWN for his hilarious and original content on TikTok, Levi Gabriel Green has been turning many frowns upside down since he started his account two years ago.

Speaking to Northglen News, Levi, known as Foster Kid on the social media platform, said he started the account to create a stepping stone into the world of acting, a dream he plans to make come true once he completes Grade 12 this year.

“At first I didn’t speak in my videos. I would just do challenges. Once I started speaking, my following started to grow,” he said.

The 17-year-old then began sharing a little bit of his life in his videos which mainly included what he would do in his day.

He also mimicked scenes from what would happen in school and, those two elements increased his following tremendously.

“I found out that my followers were interested in my life so I started to share more of that. My housework routine, walk to school, classmates, what I ate and more,” said the content creator.

Some of his latest videos revealed his addiction to yogurt lollies and his numerous visits to his neighbour, aunty Maureen, who sells the item.

Recently his followers have been asking more questions about his birth parents and why he calls himself Foster Kid.

“Well it’s because I am a foster kid,” he said.

“The reason why I always evade these types of questions is because I don’t want people to listen to my story and feel sorry for me. Whatever I earn in life, I want to earn on my own merit and not out of pity,” said Levi.

His story, in a nutshell, is that both his parents are alive, but he now lives with his aunt.

“My mom left when I was little to go find work in Johannesburg. I lived with my dad for a while but he was unwell so another aunty took care of me,” he said.

Levi refers to the aunty as his foster gran as she became a grandmother to him when he lived with her for 10 years. He still visits her on some weekends and spends his holidays with her in Greenwood Park.

“My parents are still alive. I am not an orphan. When my granny fell ill, I lived with a family in Stanger before moving in with my aunt,” he said.

“So you see, that’s the shortened version of my story. I don’t want people to say oh shame poor Levi,” added Levi.

So how does Levi stay so positive despite the raw hand life has dealt him. He says it’s actually very simple – he doesn’t let negativity bother him.

“I know that if I want to achieve something, I can, provided that I put the work into it.

“That’s my advice to anyone who feels they will get nowhere in life because of their circumstances. Your time will come, but make sure you are working towards your dreams,” he said.

And that he certainly does. Levi works on weekends as a waiter and says people notice him from TikTok and ask for selfies.

“I love it when people notice. I enjoy the fame because I worked hard for it.

“My followers even tell me that my videos make them feel better when they’re having a tough day. I’m making a positive impact,” he said.

Although he does get hate comments, he responds to it with two words: ‘you jealous’ , which has his followers in stitches.

“Other content creators respond to those comments with an explanation. I don’t feel I need to explain myself,” said Levi.

Levi’s next step is to apply for a bursary and study drama.

“My dream is to become an actor and I will fulfil it,” he said.
