Sunningdale resident hopes to bring theatre alive with performances

Lyle Buxton will take on a series of roles in Charlotte's Web including John Arable, Gander the goose, Lurvy the farmhand, a reporter and a President of the County Fair.

SUNNINGDALE resident and actor, Lyle Buxton is hoping for a sell-out success in this year’s production of Charlotte’s Web at the lush and leafy Botanic Gardens Amphitheatre.

This theatrical adaptation of the children’s classic by E.B. White is from the Kickstart Theatre Company.

Presented on a colourful set, the show will feature a marvellous mix of puppets and theatrical magic.

“The cast and the production crew are all looking forward to this year’s event. So far the response to the show returning has been fantastic. The increased capacity allowed under the Covid-19 regulations has also increased at outdoor events so it comes at a great time. I think people are still quite starved of live theatre, so it is a welcome event in a perfect relaxed setting,” Buxton said.

“Charlotte’s Web definitely has a lovely vibe about it. Families loved it last year, and we found that this particular show suited an outdoor setting. It comes with its own challenges of course, like no lighting, no proper backstage, and some of our entrances require us to walk through the lush bushes. But that’s part of the charm of it all. The bugs add to the atmosphere. In all honesty it’s a beautiful setting for a beautiful story. The audience’s energy is a huge part of what makes live theatre alive. We as the performers feed off their energy for sure. We all ride on the wave journey of the story together.”

Charlotte’s Web takes place from Saturday, March 26 to Sunday, April 3 at the Durban Botanic Gardens Amphitheatre daily at 14:30. There will be morning shows on Saturday, March 26 and April 2 at 11:00 and Sunday April 3 at 11:00.

Ticket prices range in price with R150 for adults and R120 for children U12 and pensioners.
