Teen arrested for robbing jogger in Durban North

It was established that the suspect was only 13 years old.

A JOGGER was robbed of her cellphone while running along Adelaide Tambo Drive in the Durban North this morning.

WhatsApp messages were circulated on various crime alert groups stating that the jogger had been robbed by a suspect armed with a metal rod.

Marshall Security’s emergency dispatch centre received news and, together with the Homehawks Neighborhood Watch members, responded to scene.

“They managed to get a clothing description of the suspect after interviewing the severely traumatised. victim,” said Marshall Security spokesperson, Tyron Powell.

During the  search, Homehawks members spotted the suspected on Chelsea Drive. Marshall armed response members assisted and found the woman’s cellphone in the suspect’s possession, as well as the weapon used to commit the robbery.

“The 13-year-old suspect was handed over to the Durban North SAPS who arrived on scene a short while later,” said Powell.

“Well done to all role-players working together, making our neighborhood safe,” he added.
