GALLERY: North Durban residents live in colour for CANSA

La Lucia Mall, like several shopping centres countrywide, played host to the annual event.

SCORES of residents showed their support for the CANSA Shavathon fundraiser last week including Durban North’s very own Spider-Man.

La Lucia Mall, like several shopping centres countrywide, played host to the annual event.

Leader volunteer at the La Lucia staction, Sophia Alley, said she was blown away by the support.

“We started off the morning with a R200 donation and ever since we’ve had people spray, shave and cut which was just awesome. It was quite emotional watching Hope Naidu cut her hair as the gesture means so much. We are also grateful to Spider-Man and all the volunteers for bringing awareness and support for CANSA.

“All the funds raised from today’s event will go directly towards providing care and support service to cancer patients and loved ones.” Alley said.

Maria Scholtz, CANSA’s head of sustainability explained this year’s campaign is ‘Be Uniquely You – Be Colourful’.

“We’re so excited to launch our campaign. We know times are tough, and we’ve kept the price the same since Shavathon started. Many South Africans take part on behalf of a loved one who is living with cancer or who has been lost to cancer. Volunteers and staff were delighted with the support,” Scholtz said.
