Armed gang assault resident, attempt to hijack another within minutes

The suspects fired several shots in the air as they fled the scene of the crime.

AN Effingham Heights resident was assaulted in a home invasion on Sunday (20 February).

The brazen gang involved in the incident then attempted to hijack another resident just doors down from the robbery.

Sanveer Sooklall, the spokesperson for Swift Private Security, said the incident occurred at about 11:00 on Desai Crescent.

“Four armed suspects arrived in a white VW Jetta and gained access into the property and held up the family. The suspects then demanded the valuables from the victims and assaulted the elderly male before fleeing the scene.

“While the suspects were fleeing the scene they noticed an elderly female in her vehicle a few doors away and attempted to hijack her. The suspects failed to do so and ripped off her necklace and took her handbag. The suspects then fired shots in the air before fleeing the scene,” he said.

He added Greenwood Park SAPS also responded to the incident.
