La Lucia Junior Primary School gets splash of colour

Several murals adorn sections of the school and include frogs, birds, butterflies, and Egyptian geese.

THE walls of La Lucia Junior Primary (LLJP) School have been brought to life through the artwork of popular Durban graffiti artist, Giffy Duminy.

Several murals adorn sections of the school and include frogs, birds, butterflies, and Egyptian geese.

Principal of the school, Jen Harman, said the murals have brightened up the school

“Every year we have a celebration for our Grade 3s that leave the school. Prior to this we normally host an entrepreneurial market but due to the pandemic, we were unable to. So we donated some of the money raised through our fundraising initiatives to do something to remember the Grade 3s of 2021 and we thought these murals would make a welcome addition,” she said.

Harman added LLJP is a foundation phase school, which meant the more colour the better.

“We think Giffy did a phenomenal job. A lot of the murals tie in with themes. We love and respect nature so the frogs, birds, and butterflies certainly reflect that. We also have a family of Egyptian geese who use our pool so those murals tie in there.

“We’ve already seen how the learners interact and admire the murals. We’ve also spoken to him about the possibility of continuing the murals on one side of the school,” she said.
