Community members tackled the area outside the Redhill Post Office as well as the pavements and grassy banks along the busy road.

MEMBERS of the community brought positive vibes and high energy to a clean-up on Chris Hani Road (North Coast Road) recently.

The clean-up was organised by Teens Under The Hood South Africa (TUTH-SA) organisation, with the aim to uplift and champion the community.

The non-profit company, which was started by Durban North resident, Michelle Beaumont, saw members tackle the area outside the Redhill Post Office as well as the pavements and grassy banks along the busy road.

After an open call by Beaumont, the clean-up in the north Durban area mirrored several others in Sydenham, Chatsworth and Phoenix.

“We wanted this to be a greater Durban initiative. So we put the call out and community members from other areas voiced their support and decided to host their own routes. It was awesome being a part of the collective and giving back to the communities we live in,” she said.

Speaking of the clean-up on Chris Hani Road, Beaumont said more initiatives like this were needed.

“What was great with Saturday’s clean-up was seeing the youth and adults working hand-in-hand to clean up. It makes my heart very happy. Unfortunately, what we picked up is quite worrying. There was a lot of broken glass littered all over the pavement on the shoulder of Chris Hani Road. Many of our children walk to school on this road, so that’s very dangerous,” she said.
