Durban North suburbs left in the dark for over 40 hours

It is uncertain as to when power will be restored and residents will be updated on social media as new information becomes available.

DURBAN North has been plagued with intermittent power cuts since Tuesday, February 1.

According to ward councillor, Shontel de Boer some areas have had their electricity reinstated, while some are unfortunately still in the dark.

Some residents have been left in the dark for almost 40 hours and frustration has mounted.

“Frozen products have spoilt and residents don’t know what to do anymore,” she said.

De Boer said technicians have worked on restoring power all day on Wednesday and all of Thursday night at the substation on Fairways Road and McKeurtan Avenue.

“There were cable faults on Kensington Drive as well so new cables had to be installed. Fuses had also blown on certain properties so these had to be replaced as well,” she said.

As of this morning, the councillor has received more complaints about power outages on Adelaide Tambo, Park Hill, and Stirling Crescent.

De Boer added that there was a lot of confusion surrounding the Stirling Crescent power outage as the power cuts on this street occur regularly.

“At the moment, power outages are a city-wide problem as many councillors are dealing with power cuts,” said de Boer.

She added that residents will be updated on social media as new information becomes available.
